Carnivale!

Well haven't decided what the title will be yet! Thought I'd better get cracking with my writing because I enjoy it and haven't written for a while! Last blog I wrote about my trip to Japan which I thoroughly enjoyed. Had heaps of pics and was going to upload some more but I'm over that now and just want to get on with the present moment! Have my beautiful daughter visiting with her gorgeous children and lovely hubby and of course tagging along for the ride my ex husband!!! So we're all one big happy family and I'm loving it! It's perfect weather here at the moment in the far north and every year at this time we have a fabulous event called Carnivale! Food and Wine festivals, fish and chips on the marina and the longest lunch! Competitions on the beach and parades down the main street. Something for everyone and the atmosphere is wonderful!

Ohhh It's Been A While!!

Yep,  been a litle while !  Japan holiday was super. Flight straight thru only took 7hrs and what a 7hrs that was. Spoilt rotten on Jetstars business class, champayne on arrival...yaaay loving it!
after snacks, drinks watching movies it seemed no time before we had arrived. Hopped on the shuttle bus then the big one that took us to our hotel!   How gorgeous was that fairy lights everywhere, which by the way is a fav of mine!!The Hotel was perfect......in fact everything about Japan is pretty well spot on......the people are so welcoming and polite and everywhere sooooo clean!   We went at the right time of the year, all the cherry blossoms were out in full blooom ....!!Every where you looked  beautiful Cherry blossoms and the weather was perfect!Daughter Skye came with us, last time she'd been overseas she was 5yrs old so she was extremely excited to see how another culture lives! The days were spent sightseeing and of course SHOPPING!!!......Mainly clothes for Skye as most we saw were for the young!  Well at least thats where Skye directed us too!  I did need another pair of walking shoes so stopped to get some on the first day of shopping and John  (hubby) told me to get a second pair as they were soooooo cheap! I bought 3pairs.... whitfaced he came out after paying... only to realize he'd miscalculated the change over and spent $500 instead of $100!!!!   Hehehe!! I didn't care I had 3 new pairs....loving it!!Hubby waited patiently while we shopped and ....yep....kept going into the dark hours of the nite...aww poor John!  Lots of eating out and Japanese beer which I love till we caught up with sis and her daughter Emily who is currently residing in Japan teaching english! Here they are as we came out of a restuarant!Well it's dinner time here now and I'm signing off to go cook dinner and have a well earned glass of vino. Will continue with my Japan blog next time! Until then...おやすみなさい。.........Goodnight!!

What a Week!

Up I got with great anticipation picking up my sis from the airport only to be told the road was closed again and not opening till the next day! What to do!!!! The only way was over Mt Molloy which was a two hour drive through the pouring rain and the worry of me getting lost! No good with directions. But lucky for me ...not my hubby... he couldn't get to work the normal way either... so I had someone to follow! Great!  Finally arrived, went  to pick her up and of course...delayed!  Waited around for hours, she should have been here at 12.30 and didn"t arrive till 5pm...arrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Now we have to get home via the same way...over Mt Malloy in the pouring rain and pitch blackness!  No lights anywhere except from the occassional passing car which by the way blinds me!  Finally after 2 very long hours of swearing driving panicking and swearing again we arrived home exhausted!  Then cooked dinner...YES....cooked dinner, wine in hand cause I needed it and talked till 1am!   What a tireing day, but a happy ending as it was great to have sis here!!!!  Next we're off to Japan!! See ya!

Age It Must Be Getting To Me!

Well after the last posting with all that rain, Port was cut off completely for a couple of days as the only road to cairns was blocked by a landslide!  Boulders as big as my little car, sure glad I was safely home and not driving the range or minnie and I may be floating out to sea!
Its still raining and I've just made up the bedroom all ready for sis to arrive. Hope she's remembered to bring her wellies and a umbrella cause she'll be needing it!  Took a pic to show her her room was ready and low and behold have an entity on the right of the photo!!   Probably my mother hanging around to tell us off for not going to her special day the family is having in celebration of her birthday!!But the thing that is bothering me the most is the fact that I think I may be approaching that time in my life where the brain is not up to full capacity....I mean really....I went down the street shopping the other day and didn't realize till I was getting ready that night for my shower that my top was inside out!!!  All day and nobody said anything and the tag was showing on the outside!!!   Then I went down to spotlight only to look down at my feet and I still had on my slippers!!! Arrrrrrr!!!!!!   I realize the slippers in the pic look like thongs but they are towelling and definitely look like slippers !!! Next I'll be wearing my knickers over my trackie pants!!!! Ohhh the worry !!!And Besides they didn't go with my cooool outfit!   But nevertheless that night I went out with some very good friends who still love me the way I am, we had lots of laughs  and  had a lovely night! See thats me at the end of the table on the right next to the upturned bottle of wine......I sure needed that!!!

Rain!!! Rain!!! And More Rain!!!!

Well I realize if you live in the tropics of far north Queensland you have to expect rain but this is getting ridiculous! Here I am an hour drive from home and a bit weary of traveling around the range ( as its quite dangerous ) to get to my place of abode.
Yes this is the gorgeous tree at the front of my property, beautiful red flowers when its in bloom!!  But anyway as I was saying, trying to get home was a bit of a nightmare.  So I thought I'd stay down in Cairns till at least the rain...ha...I mean deluge stopped or eased off!!!!   My husband stays in cairns for a couple of nights a week as the trip back is soo tireing when working all day, and I go down for a sleepover to keep him company!   But I was beginning to regret that decision as I hunted in the fridge for something for lunch. Men....leave them to look after themselves for just a short time and beware!!!   Everything in the fridge has to be studied....either...... way outta date or off .....no butter....smell the milk....arrrr, managed to find 2 pieces of stale bread, a can of salmon and had a cuppa with the last drop of luckily ok milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!          So finally after a few hours  I trudged off to wind my way home along the ocean road under a heavy sky.  Luckily it stopped raining on the way but it was getting quite dark and stormy looking! The sea was very rough and the water was gushing very fast along the sides of the road!   Well it is the wet season and I can't really complain because we've had an exceptionally good summer with nice days and not too much humidity,  but I guess it's going to make up for it now!!!!   Told my sis who's coming up for a holiday to bring her galoshes, she said target had very noice leopard pair so maybe I'll dash down and invest in some too and we can be the matching pair!!!!!!!     Only hope she doesn't mind frizzy hair!!!!!!!

Good Read!

Have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the rain and the dark days for a change. Started off with a yummy meal out with some close friends on friday night altho the head was singing "I 'm hurting" in the morning!
Cooked a delicious pasta dish on saturday for lunch and altho the treadmill was begging me to use it, I completely ignored it and sat down and started to read a book I downloaded on my ipad. "Raising Abel" by Carolyn Nash.... And altho I wondered if it was a wise thing to do as I'm easily upset by these sort of stories I could not put it down.....I read into the night, briefly getting up to throw some dinner together..(had to feed the old geezer) and still read on till my contacts fogged up so badly it was time for bed!
This morning after a sleep in and breaky I had to continue on with the book.   A few "Oh my Gods" and a few tears I finally finished it feeling all"s right with the world after all!   It's a an amazing story (all true) and well worth the read!....So now it's time for a cupcake  or two and a noice pot of earl grey!  I'm afraid my cupcakes are no where near as good as grandaughter Mobina and daughter Skye's and I certainly need practise with the icing ...lol...but they still tasted yummy!!  I thank God after the book that I've just finished  I and my kids and their kids have had loving, blessed lives and also....it makes me realize we have so much to feel grateful for!!     SEE YA!!

The Big Wedding Day..(did someone say no alcohol!!!)

Well we certainly had a big day, actually a bigger day leading up to the wedding in the rain forest! Yep the non alcohol wedding which was a first for our family!!!! Coming from pretty much Irish stock the nerves were getting frazzled thinking about it. Hubby and I had to fly down from Far North Queensland (3hrs 20mins)
then jump into a rental and head 3hr drive to our overnight accommodation and be ready at the wedding at 11am! Well that would have been fine except we got thoroughly lost in the rainforest in the dead of night on a road that only had room for one car, and, we had to squeeze past 2 coming in the opposite direction. Just missed a kangaroo that whizzed passed our car as we slammed on the brakes, that would have been fun taking back the rental smashed up with kangaroo hair stuck to the front, yeah... Right!!! We were getting really worried and not to mention rather nervous as we were driving into body dumping over growth so we decided to turn around and go back the way we came.. No reception for our mobiles...so that wasn't helping!!  Finally to cut a long story short, well, not too short we arrived at our destination albeit 3hrs later than anticipated, that meant we drove for 6hrs!!! Fell into bed and slept soundly and didn't worry that I had to go down the hall and around the corner to the shared loo...arrrrr... No ensuite!!!!!! Well at least it was better than hubby he had to go down the hallway, around the corner thru reception, up the stairs, thru the billiard room to get to his shared loo!It was beautiful in the rainforest where the wedding was, cool air although the day was sunny and hot. Foliage was amazing, creek running alongside and guests all assembled. The ceremony was moving and a tear was shed, although not sure if that was the moment or the thought of not being able to toast the newly married couple!

Then after congrats to the happy newly wed we all partook of water and a gluten free meal in a box!! (arrrrrrrrrrr) All my side couldn't stop thinking about all the eski's and champs in the car boot but we thought we'd better wait!    Pics were then taken and we had 3hrs to kill! They ( being the newly wed) suggested a walk in the rain forest or gardens, don't know what the other side did but my side all ran for their cars and drove straight to the pub for refreshments! This is me and my beloved below!!  Back to the wedding to be seated at tables with water, soft drink and more gluten free food! Drinks were smuggled in, hid under tables and consumed! One side of the table was quiet and the other side laughing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. We were all well behaved but come on.... If u don't like a tipple that's fine but if some do they shouldn't be denied! We had all travelled a long way put up with tiredness and cost, being out of our comfort zone, and we bloody well deserved the drink!!! Lots of laughter, lots of lovely people and just a little deceit!!...loved it all!!
THE END!!!

My Valentine's!

My Valentine day had a lovely beginning with a bunch of red roses delivered!

But lonely as hubby was working in cairns that day and so we decided we'd have a lovely meal out the next night! So with anticipation I waited for him to arrive and then off we popped to the local posh restaurant!!   It was a lovely balmy night and for Far North Queensland wasn't too hot and steamy thank God or my hair would have gone to frizz!!....Oh and by the way hubby also recieved a beautiful basket of flowers from moi....his looking decidedly better than mine I might tell you!!
We had a glass of bubbly first and of course hubby was giggling after just a couple of mouthfuls...can't handle the good stuff !!!  Yummmy meal,  great service and a very entertaining night was had!

Halfway through the meal Hubby got a phone call and of couse he'd had a vino as well by then  and low and behold proceeds to drop said mobile in his dinner!!

But needless to say our night was one of heaps of fun love and laughter and lets face it.....isn't that what it's all about!
Well thats all folks!!
